VISAKHAPATNAM: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) approved 3,385 building plan applications through online building permission management system in 2024-25, which generated an income of 110.25 crore. GVMC mayor G Hari Venkata Kumari and commissioner P Sampath Kumar said the civic body also processed 2,738 applications through layout regularisation scheme.
“Of these, 2,686 cases were resolved, bringing in 65.71 crore in revenue. Work is ongoing on 15 master plan roads across 84.84 kilometres in the city. GVMC set a property tax collection target of 470 crore for 2024-25, of which 284 crore was collected till Dec 16. Under the early bird offer, property taxpayers received a 5% discount. This resulted in Rs 118.58 crore in revenue for GVMC in just one month (April). New property tax assessments led to an increase of Rs 30 crore in demand. We urge property taxpayers to pay on time to help in the city’s development,” said Hari Kumari.
Sampath Kumar said the civic body’s efforts in sanitation management were recognised by the state govt.
“Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu presented the ‘Swachh Bhagidari’ award to GVMC on Oct 2. We also received the first-place award for providing loans to street vendors under the PM Svamitva Scheme. To make the city plastic-free, GVMC will implement a ban on single-use plastics from Jan 1,” he said.
