LUCKNOW: The UP cabinet on Wednesday decided to create a development authority that would regulate urban development and construction activity within the city limits of Shahjahanpur.
Part of the Bareli administrative division, a survey will be conducted in the 49 revenue villages in Shahjahanpur, which would fall under the jurisdiction of the authority. The development authority will acquire land and provide housing schemes for the local population.
Officials said that since the municipal council of the city was upgraded to a municipal corporation, the need to create a housing authority was felt to regulate haphazard development and construction activity. Once notified, property owners will have to approach the authority to get their building maps approved, and action will be initiated against those who carried out unauthorised construction.
Shahjahanpur will be the 30th development authority in the state.
