BHOPAL: A 32-year-old woman was assaulted, stripped, and burned with a hot iron, in addition to having red chilli put into her privates, allegedly by her in-laws in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh.
The victim, an ASHA worker, alleged that her ordeal began when a neighbour entered her home asking for a steam machine and then attempted to sexually assault her.
This angered her in-laws, who accused her of bringing dishonour to the family. The incident occurred on December 13.
She was subjected to physical assault the whole night, as they suspected her of being in a relationship with the neighbour. The abuse continued into the morning, culminating in her being stripped naked and thrown into the courtyard.
The woman further alleged that her father-in-law inserted chilli powder into her private parts, while her mother-in-law used a hot iron rod to burn her thighs and private parts.
The excruciating pain caused her to faint. When she regained consciousness, her father-in-law and husband forced her onto a motorbike and drove her to Gopisagar Dam in Guna district, where they abandoned her.
A passerby found the injured woman and informed her family. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. The victim, who has four daughters and one son, is now seeking the return of her children, who are currently in the custody of her in-laws.
The Karanwas police have registered an FIR against her mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband, sister-in-law, and neighbour under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on December 13 when she was approached in her home by her neighbour, who allegedly followed her into a room. Her sister-in-law intervened, causing the accused to leave.
Afterwards, the victim states that her in-laws accused her of bringing dishonour to the family and subjected her to physical violence throughout the night.
