GURUGRAM: The civic corporation found six illegal colonies have come up on 700 acres disputed panchayat land in Behrampur during a surprise inspection. Nodal officer (enforcement) said signboards will soon be placed earmarking the site as illegal, and subsequently, these constructions will be razed.
Plots, sold at Rs 50,000-80,000 per square yard, have been carved out. Of the six patches inspected, three already had road networks and construction underway, while others were being levelled for development, officials said.
Nodal officer RS Batth said, “The land, part of approximately 700 acres, was originally owned by the village panchayat but was transferred to private persons under questionable circumstances. Its ownership is under legal dispute, further complicating the issue.”
Officials announced a crackdown on such violations, with a detailed report to be submitted within seven days to the deputy commissioner, tehsildar, forest department, electricity department, and hydrologist. Batth said the aim is to block all sale and purchase activities in the disputed areas and prevent new utilities, such as electricity connections or borewells, from being approved.
A formal complaint will also be filed with the local SHO to register an FIR and launch a comprehensive investigation. Preliminary findings revealed that plots were being sold at rates ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per square yard through general power of attorney (GPA). Officials linked the transactions to property dealers from the Maruti Kunj area and other persons based in Delhi.
“It was found that agreements were being executed without proper partition (taksim) or legal clearances,” said an official, adding that the activities reflect deliberate exploitation of legal loopholes to sell unauthorised plots.
Despite prior demolition drives and FIRs in similar cases, illegal activities in Behrampur persist, driven by skyrocketing land prices. Officials urged buyers to verify legal clearances before investing in real estate in Gurgaon.
