RANCHI: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has intensified its efforts to recover outstanding holding taxes for the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25 (up to the fourth quarter, ending March this year).

Despite prior notices, 85 property owners were yet to clear their dues. Among the tax defaulters, Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir located in Dhurwa owed the highest of ₹1,703,305. The RMC has published a list of defaulters along with a notice, serving as a final warning for holding owners to comply with their tax obligations and avoid potential disruptions in their businesses.

RMC assistant administrator Chandradeep Kumar said, “The urban civic body is committed to ensuring compliance with holding tax regulations. Defaulters must clear their dues within seven days through our facilitation centres or online platforms. Delayed payments disrupt civic projects and strict action, including account freezing and property attachment among others, will follow for non-compliance.”

For the 2024-25 financial year, RMC has set a holding tax collection target of ₹83 crore and ₹60 crore has already been collected so far. To achieve its goal, the corporation has issued notices to over 1,000 property owners, including 100 major defaulters, urging them to clear their dues promptly.

The RMC has determined holding tax for over 50,000 buildings within the municipal corporation area, focusing on properties with long-standing unpaid dues or pending commercial tax assessments. The corporation has also installed hoardings to promote online tax payments, encouraging property owners to utilize digital platforms for their convenience.

The hoarding also urged the property owners to act promptly to avoid legal consequences, including issuance of warrants for attachment and auction of movable and immovable properties, and seizure of financial instruments. “Failure to comply will result in strict legal actions under Section 184 of the Jharkhand Municipal Act,” Kumar added.
