JAIPUR: To encourage residents to file urban development (UD) tax on time, the local self-governance department has ordered that 100% rebate will be given on interest to those who submit their UD tax in lump sum for the year 2023-24. However, only those who submit it by March 31 will get the benefit.
Similarly, on lump sum payment of pending UD tax from cases before 2011-12, along with the exemption of penalty, a 50% discount on the principal has also been given. For house tax, 50% discount has been given on the principal amount and 100% discount on interest.
Urban development tax is imposed on all residential units or land above 300 square yards and commercial, institutional, and industrial units of more than 900 square feet.
Director for the local self-governance department, Kumar Pal Gautam, said, “These exemption provisions will remain effective till March 31. If even after exemptions, the defaulters do not pay their dues on time, then action will be taken against them.”
However, he clarified that cases related to the tax deposited earlier will not be reopened, nor will the amount deposited be refunded. In order to help urban bodies achieve their tax collection targets, the state govt gives exemptions on UD tax and house tax every year. Despite this, civic bodies usually fail to meet their targets by the end of the financial year.
Now, in the last quarter of the financial year 2024-25, revenue officials of the civic body have also started conducting inspections of properties with high-value tax pending, along with collections from private firms appointed by the municipal corporation for tax collection from residents.
In the coming months, zone-wise camps will also be set up in the city for the collection of UD tax, along with special camps for marriage gardens to collect tax. In the financial year 2022-23, JMC Greater collected UD tax, house tax, and advertisement tax amounting to Rs 69 crore.
