KANPUR: Preparations for the extension of passenger service from Motijheel to Kanpur Central under Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) of the Kanpur Metro are nearing completion. The five underground stations along this stretch are undergoing finishing works, including those at Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central.

Additionally, system installation work across various departments is progressing rapidly.

Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), visited the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section and the underground section from Chunniganj to Transport Nagar Station of Corridor-1 on Tuesday.

During his visit, he assessed the progress of various departmental works. Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates have been installed at four out of the five stations.

The Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system is essential for smooth metro travel. It includes AFC gates, Ticket Vending Machines (TVM), and Ticket Office Machines (TOM). Installation of these systems is progressing swiftly from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central Station. The AFC gates allow passengers to scan QR codes on their tickets for entry into the paid area.

Passengers can choose from QR code tickets or NCMC Go smart cards for metro travel. Additionally, Kanpur Metro’s official mobile app allows passengers to buy tickets from home.

Available on both Android and iOS, the ‘Kanpur Metro’ app generates a QR code for scanned entry at AFC gates upon booking, facilitating a smooth travel experience.
