PANAJI: Goa police launched a tenant verification drive in North Goa on Saturday, verifying the credentials of at least 40,000 tenants and house helpers residing in the district so far.
Superintendent of police (SP) North Goa, Akshat Kaushal, said that the drive was launched in all police stations of North Goa and special camps were set up in major market areas.
“These verificationcamps aim to ensure that there is 100% police verification of tenants, labourers, and house help,” he said.
Kaushal said that close coordination is maintained with the market welfare associations to enhance public and police cooperation in all high-footfall areas of North Goa. “Every week new areas will be defined for more public-police cooperation. In 2024, till Sep 28, 27.7k tenants and 11,068 house helpers have been verified,” Kaushal said.
The verification process involved checking if the landlord conducted proper police verification, ensuring the premises they have rented were not used for illegal activities, and randomly reviewing tenants’ backgrounds to check for antisocial elements.
Goa police have launched ‘Operation Raakhan’ to monitor suspicious individuals and vehicles during the late hours.
Police will also conduct night patrolling from 11pm to 5am. With this initiative, police aim to make the state crime-free and boost public safety and confidence.
The recent instances of housebreaking and other illegal activities during nightfall have prompted police to make this move.
Night patrolling by Mapusa police had helped solve the jewellery shop theft case and arrest the accused.
