HCL founder Shiv Nadar gifts 47% of his stake to daughter

Prior to this announcement, Shiv Nadar held 51% shareholding respectively, in both Vama Delhi and HCL Corp.
As per the exchange filing “gift Deeds have been executed pursuant to a private family arrangement intended to streamline succession, which would ensure continuity of ownership and control by Mr Shiv Nadar Family (promoter family) and would provide desired stability to the company.”
Roshni is the only child of businessman Shiv Nadar. HCL, found in 1976, is a central player in India’s rise as an IT hub. Roshni became its chairperson in July 2020. She is also a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which is focused on education.
Roshni is currently serving as the chairperson of HCL Technologies, a leading global technology company.

Roshni was born in 1982, to Shiv Nadar and Kiran Nadar and was raised in New Delhi.
Shiv Nadar, popularly called as Magnus by peers, is the founder of HCL. A Padma Bhushan awardee, Shiv Nadar is known for transforming IT sector.
Kiran Nadar is an Indian art collector and philanthropist and is the founder of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. One of the India’s leading contract bridge player, Kiran won a bronze medal in the 2018 Asian Games in the Bridge Mixed team event.
Roshni attended Vasant Valley School before pursuing higher education in the United States. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication with a focus on radio, television, and film from Northwestern University. Subsequently, she completed her Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management, specializing in social enterprise management and strategy.
Roshni Nadar Malhotra is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at the MIT School of Engineering, USA, and serves on the Kellogg School of Management Executive Board for Asia. She is also a board member of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) and a global board director at The Nature Conservancy (TNC). Additionally, she holds the position of an independent director on the board of HDFC Asset Management Company.

After receiving the 47% stake gift from her dad, Roshni’s financial ranking has elevated. She is now the third richest Indian. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires – India list, Mukesh Ambani remains the richest Indian with a net worth of $88.1 billion, followed by Gautam Adani at $68.9 billion. Shiv Nadar, previously ranked third with a net worth of $35.9 billion, transferred his stake to Roshni, making her the third richest Indian. Currently, Vama Sundari Investment, which ranks ninth among the Top 30 midcap companies by valuation, holds a 44.71 per cent stake in HCL, valued at ₹186,782 crore.

Roshni Nadar Malhotra’s husband

A trained classical musician, Roshni Nadar married Shikhar Malhotra, vice chairman of HCL Healthcare, in 2010. The couple has two sons, Armaan and Jahaan. Despite her affluent background, she maintains a grounded lifestyle, emphasizing accountability and responsibility, values instilled by her parents.
