LUCKNOW: To address persistent technical glitches and provide a seamless online self-assessment service for property tax, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will launch a new mobile application and strengthen its existing web-based self-assessment service with enhanced security features.

To facilitate this upgrade and resolve technical issues, the existing web-based service has been temporarily suspended for 15 days. The suspension aims to address ongoing technical glitches and improve security features for both the app and the website.

This decision follows numerous complaints from users regarding errors and misuse of the current system. Launched two years ago, the service was initially designed to allow citizens to register their properties online via the LMC website. However, several issues have arisen, including the submission of incorrect property details, changes in ownership names, inaccurate carpet area entries, and modifications to location data.

LMC commissioner Inderjit Singh on Monday directed officials to suspend the service and prioritise resolving these issues. “We are developing a new mobile application for the service in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), ” he said.

“Some staff members were also found exploiting lapses in security features. They promised taxpayers to reduce their tax liability, filled out manipulated assessment forms, and submitted revised tax amounts. Such complaints are being actively probed,” Singh added.

When asked why self-users weren’t verified through on-site visits, an LMC official, requesting anonymity, explained, “Due to the large number of online applications, frequent delays occurred. During on-site visits, people often created disturbances, making the process unmanageable.”

Chief taxation officer Ashok Singh noted that the LMC website received around 30–50 applications daily through this service. “The suspension will ensure the platform is more reliable and secure for citizens when it relaunches,” he said.

“The revamped system is expected to provide a more robust and user-friendly experience,” he said.
