INDORE: Indore Municipal Corporation, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0, was allocated a total of around 8.5 hectare of land at two places for the construction of affordable houses.

According to IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma, the central govt set an ambitious target of completing the construction of houses under the PMAY 2.0 Scheme by 2029. As part of this initiative, the corporation initiated the process of acquiring land.

“Following this, a request was placed before the district administration, and Collector Asheesh Singh allotted 4.892 hectares of land in Limbodagari and 3.764 hectares in Palakhedi for the PMAY 2.0 housing scheme. The corporation officially took possession of these lands and installed boards indicating municipal ownership. These plots will be utilised to construct multistoried apartments for the beneficiaries,” he said.

The commissioner said that this move is expected to provide affordable housing to a large number of people in Indore, thereby addressing the pressing issue of housing shortage in the city.

Senior IMC officials said that in the second phase of PMAY, a new clause allows for the flats to be rented out at affordable rates. “There is a considerable population who are either staying in the city for short terms or have other plans, thus not applying to buy affordable PMAY flats. These people, however, are paying heavy rent, and to solve this problem, the civic body, after completing new apartments under PMAY 2.0, will rent the flats at affordable rates,” they explained.

The deadline for the construction of affordable houses under PMAY 2.0 is five years. Senior IMC officials said they will ensure the timely completion of these housing projects and provide quality homes to the beneficiaries.
