HYDERABAD: The local municipal authorities, in coordination with HYDRAA, on Thursday, dismantled unauthorized commercial structures at Anuhar Morning Raga apartments in Alkapuri township, Manikonda municipality.

Residents of 38 flats had raised concerns with HYDRAA about the misuse of residential permissions for commercial purposes on the ground floor, a complaint they had first reported to the Narsingi police station three years ago.

HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath conducted an inspection with municipal officials two weeks ago, during which he spoke with both the residents and the construction firm’s owner about the commercial conversion and allegations of blackmail, which the builder denied.

In response to the residents’ objections, the commissioner reviewed construction permits with both parties. An investigation into complaints filed with HMDA, HYDRAA, and the municipality revealed unauthorized commercial construction in what was intended to be a residential building.

“The conversion of elevation corridors for banking strong rooms has affected building stability, with visible cracks emerging. Residents expressed concerns about safety risks, citing previous accidents involving battery charging points. Despite warnings about residential area disruption, the builder ignored notices regarding the apartment’s commercial conversion,” Ranganath said.

Manikonda municipality confirmed that multiple notices — including show-cause and demolition notices — had been issued before proceeding with the demolition, carried out under HYDRAA’s supervision.
