HYDERABAD: Housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the state govt is contemplating developing housing projects between Outer Ring Road and Regional Ring Road in three corners of the city as part of providing affordable housing for middle class and lower middle class people.

“The housing department will identify 100 acres of land each on Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway, another near Kamareddy and Mumbai highway for housing. The Congress govt wants 360-degree development all around the city,” the minister said.

Regarding the Indiramma housing scheme, he said identification of beneficiaries will begin soon and be completed by end of this month.

“Under Praja Palana, the govt received 86 lakh applications, and after vetting, 37 lakh applications were preliminarily found eligible for the scheme. In the first phase, widows, disabled and poorest of the poor will be given priority,” he said.

The beneficiaries’ list will be placed before the gram sabha of the village before finalising them, he added.

The minister said that a new app is being developed as per Centre’s direction for the housing scheme, as the Centre gives 1.50 lakh for urban housing and 72,000 per unit in rural areas. The balance for the unit cost of 5 lakh would be borne by the state govt, which will be released in four stages. A model house of the 2BHK scheme will be made available at the MPDOs’ offices in mandals, he said.

Claiming that the previous BRS govt did not complete the much-hyped 2BHK housing scheme, the housing minister said while sanctions were given for 1.52 lakh units, only 92,000 were constructed in GHMC area. Apart from completing the balance 60,000 houses, he said small works are pending in completed 2BHKs, which will be completed in next two weeks.

The govt has sanctioned 197 crore for this, he added.
