MYSURU: The area of operation of Hootagalli City Municipal Council (CMC) is now widened with the inclusion of 45 new layouts after Muda handed them over to the local body.

Currently, the CMC is providing service to 33 layouts, including three industrial areas of Hinakal, Koorgalli, and Belwadi. The increase in area within its jurisdiction not only helps the local body increase its revenue collection but also extend services to residents.

About 6,000 houses were constructed in the 33 layouts of Hootagalli, and another 9,000 site owners of various measurements are waiting to start construction after obtaining necessary building plan approval from the CMC.

Muda was planning to transfer 900 new layouts to local urban bodies. It transferred 240 layouts in the first week of Dec, including 45 developed in Hootagalli CMC.

Both the residents who constructed houses and site owners in the 45 new layouts of Hootagalli CMC limits, found it difficult to sell their property as Muda was not permitted to do khata transfer. With the inclusion of 45 new layouts in Hootagalli CMC, the residents and site owners can not only obtain khata and other property documents but also borrow loans against their properties and sell their properties.

Hootagalli CMC commissioner BS Chandrashekhar told TOI that as the layouts were transferred recently, the CMC is making preparations for the collection of property tax and other cess from property owners, as well as to issue khatas and other property documents. It has also worked out a detailed plan to ensure basic facilities like UGD, drinking water, and road asphalting, and to ensure other works in a phased manner, he said.

Chamundeswari MLA GT Devegowda said the transfer of layouts has not only helped residents to obtain khata and other property documents but will also mop up the CMC’s resources. The residents had demanded the MLA to resolve technical issues related to issuing khata documents and to ensure basic facilities like other issues from several years. All the issues are solved now, he said.
