PANAJI: The minimum land rates that the revenue department has notified for Mormugao taluka do not reflect ground reality, said Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) president Shrinivas Dempo.
The GCCI said that govt has increased minimum land rates from 597% to 2,857%, which is exorbitant, unreasonable and unfair. In a letter to chief minister Pramod Sawant, Dempo said that the move to fix the minimum property prices in Sancoale on par with Dona Paula, Assagao and Taleigao is unjustified.
The revenue department has fixed the minimum land rates for Assagao and Taleigao at Rs 25,000 per sqm, while in Chicalim and Dabolim it is Rs 20,000 per sqm. On behalf of the real estate industry, Dempo has asked govt to intervene and revise the minimum land rates, which were notified in Oct. “The locals cannot afford such high-priced plots within development schemes with amenities and therefore they continue to look for cheaper plots, which are available without developed amenities described above.
This will lead to collapse of land sales and in the process, govt revenue will also drastically fall,” said the GCCI president.
The GCCI has recommended that the minimum land prices for Vasco should be increased to Rs 15,000 per sqm while for Chicalim, Dabolim and Sancoale it can be hiked to Rs 10,000 per sqm.
