Flats allotted by PMRDA structurally stable but need repairs for leakages: CoEPTU report, – Homevior

PUNE: A CoEPTU report has revealed that all 4,883 flats allotted by PMRDA in Sector 12 of Pimpri Chinchwad under Pradhanmantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) are structurally stable but need some repairs for the leakages reported by flat owners.

A Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority official said that the concerned developer has been told to complete all the repair works for leakages within a month.

A total of 45 buildings, each having 11 floors comprising one and two-bedroom flats, were built under the PMAY scheme on an area spread over around 52 hectares.

The flats were allotted to the beneficiaries in 2023, and within a year of possession, many flat owners reported leakages, particularly in the toilets, during the monsoon.

Although PMRDA told the developer to carry out repair works and a fine was imposed on the firm, the number of such complaints was significant, raising questions about the structural stability of the entire structure.

The residents claimed that the developer compromised on the quality of material used for construction, following which PMRDA chief, Yogesh Mhase, in Dec last year, decided to conduct a structural inspection of these flats by CoEPTU Technical University (CoEPTU), Pune to ensure they are safe for the residents.

PMRDA chief engineer Rinaj Pathan told TOI, “We received the report about structural stability from CoEPTU last month, and it revealed that the structures of these buildings are stable. It has been advised to carry out works related to leakages in the flats on priority, which we had already started even before getting the report, and around 85% of the work is already completed.”

Pathan further said that she is personally holding frequent meetings with the members of the society living in PMAY project to address their concerns, and they are also updating about the progress of ongoing works.

The residents had raised their concerns in April last year by staging a protest at the PMRDA office.

Most of these flats are occupied by owners, while some residents are yet to shift here. PMRDA officials said that the closed flats where the owners were yet to shift were also being inspected for possible leakages, and wherever needed, repair works were being carried out.

Pathan said that there were also some issues related to the sewage treatment plant installed in the society, due to which the water supply was interrupted, but the developer had fixed the issue.
