Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar civic body cracks down on property tax defaulters owing over 1 lakh dues, – Homevior

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has intensified its tax recovery drive with properties and establishments owing over Rs 1 lakh being sealed.

Since Dec 12,CSMC has sealed as many as 10 shops located in different parts of the city. Stating that the tax recovery process would be carried out in a more rigorous manner in days to come, the civic administration has appealed to the defaulters to clear their dues towards property tax.

“Citizens can pay their tax by visiting the nearest ward offices. The option of paying the tax online is also available on the official website. Effective tax recovery is important for the smooth functioning of the local self-governing body to carry out different public-related works,” Aparna Thete, in-charge of the CSMC tax department, said.

“Organised measures were taken during the current fiscal to improve tax recovery. We have sent demand notices to citizens in different zones mentioning the amount to be paid. We are also contacting citizens over their registered mobile numbers with a request to make the payment. Also, special vehicles are roaming in different parts with public announcements related to tax,” she added.

CSMC has set an ambitious target of recovering Rs 500 crore towards property and water taxes this fiscal year. It has so far recovered around Rs 125 crore. Notably, the local civic body collected Rs 182 crore towards both the taxes during the last financial year.
