Here is a cautionary tale for homebuyers. Seems like it does not matter how many years you have spent in a building, you can never be sure that it has fulfilled all its official obligations. Going by the problems 16 flat owners on Hosapalya Main Road, HSR Layout, are facing, it is safe to assume homebuyers must think twice before making payment to the builder or developer.

The 16 families have been residing at Vintage Blossom since 2010. All these years, these families have had no hassles as far as sanitary facilities are concerned. Now, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) assistant engineer sent workers to block the sewer line of the apartment building claiming that the sewer line is illegal as the builder or flat owners did not take permission from the BWSSB.

The flat owners were shocked when the BWSSB issued a notice to them stating that it is blocking the sewage line to the flats as it is illegal. “I bought the flat from the builder in 2010. The builder claimed to have the permission from the BWSSB to connect the sewage line to the UGD. After 15 years, the BWSSB authorities have issued the letter on March 6 and blocked the sewage line,’’ said Madhu Sudhan of Vintage Blossom Residents Welfare Association.

He said the flats were sold to the residents with explicit assurances that all the necessary approvals, including sewage and water connections were duly obtained from the BWSSB and other authorities. “This was a critical factor in our decision to purchase properties here. If any action should be taken, it should be against the builder and certainly not against innocent apartment dwellers,’’ he said.

He said that residents of the apartment complex are urging the BWSSB to facilitate a meeting with all stakeholders to resolve the matter amicably.

Expressing a similar opinion, Shajahan PS, one of the flat owners, said that he bought the flat in 2009. “The builder told me that all permissions were availed of from the competent authority. Now, the BWSSB is blocking the sewage line. The BWSSB officials must solve this problem as early as possible,’’ he said.
