Meerut: A police officer in Meerut was suspended for filing a false FIR against an Army officer’s wife, who had accused her husband and his family of harassment and conducting a raid on her home in another district without permission from his seniors, police said on Sunday.
Shweta Balyan, the wife of Lt Col Jayant Singh Balyan, accused her husband and his family of harassment for dowry and physical assault. In her complaint to the police, Shweta, who lives in the Kankar Khera area, said her husband’s behaviour changed a year into their marriage in 2014. “He recently came to my house while on leave and misbehaved with my landlord. He has assaulted me on multiple occasions.”
Shweta alleged that her husband’s family bribed Kankar Khera SHO Jitendra Kumar Singh to file a false counter-FIR against her. The FIR claimed that Shweta was in possession of Rs 10 lakh and was preventing Lt Col Balyan from selling a jointly registered property. It also alleged that Shweta and her family assaulted the Army officer, causing him injuries.
Talking to TOI on Sunday, Meerut SSP Dr Vipin Tada said, “We are investigating the couple’s claims as both have met me personally. So far, no bribery angle has appeared. However, we’re thoroughly conducting an inter-departmental inquiry. If the inspector is found guilty of taking a bribe, strong action will be taken against him.”
SHO Singh denied the allegations, saying, “I haven’t raided the complainant woman’s house and will cooperate with the inquiry committee.”
