Salman Khan’s team denies involvement with The Great Indian Kapil Show amid Legal notice over Rabindranath Tagore’s mockery- Homevior

Salman Khan’s team has officially denied any association with The Great Indian Kapil Show, currently streaming on Netflix, following a legal notice issued by the Bongo Bhashi Mahasabha Foundation. The notice, sent on behalf of Dr. Mondal and represented by legal advisor Nripendra Krishna Roy, alleges that the show disrespects the legacy of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and risks offending the cultural and religious sentiments of the Bengali community.
In a recent episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, Bollywood actresses Kajol and Kriti Sanon appeared to promote their film Do Patti. Comedian Krushna Abhishek performed a skit that used comedic Bengali phrases to alter the lyrics of Tagore’s iconic song Ekla Cholo Re. Krushna, in a satirical twist, replaced the word “Ekla” (alone) with “Pachla,” implying “walk with five people.” He further joked that walking alone could attract stray dogs, a comment that led to uproarious laughter from the audience but was viewed as offensive by many Bengalis.

With rumours circulating that Salman Khan’s production house, SKTV, was involved in The Great Indian Kapil Show, his representative released an official statement clarifying the situation. The statement firmly denied any involvement of Salman Khan or his company with the show and confirmed that the actor’s production house had no role in its operations on Netflix. The representative asserted, “Certain sections of the media are reporting that Salman Khan / SKTV has also received the notice, which is incorrect as we are not associated with The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix.”

This public clarification from Salman Khan’s team aims to dispel any misunderstanding and distance his name from the show and the controversy surrounding the alleged misrepresentation of Bengali culture.
Prominent Bengali poet Srijato Bandyopadhyay took to Facebook to condemn the skit, saying, “There’s a subtle boundary between humour and mockery, and crossing it can be risky. Often, people disregard whom they are joking about, what they are saying, and how far they go—all in a quest to chase high ratings and make people laugh. They forget where to draw the line.”
The skit’s perceived insult to Tagore’s Ekla Cholo Re did not sit well with Bengali intellectuals and artists. Music director Indradip Dasgupta, vocalist Iman Chakraborty, and filmmaker Suman Mukhopadhyay have openly condemned the segment, which they feel disrespects a song deeply embedded in Bengali cultural identity.
Srijato Bandyopadhyay, a well-known Bengali poet, expressed frustration with the comedy segment, citing that it crossed a line between humour and outright disrespect. He criticized Krushna Abhishek’s portrayal, emphasizing the need to uphold respect in creative expressions, especially when they pertain to cultural icons like Tagore.

In addition to individual voices, the Bengali nationalist organization Bangla Paksha also raised concerns, accusing the show of having an underlying bias against Bengalis. Garga Chatterjee, founder of Bangla Paksha, pointed out that this is not the first instance in which the show has reportedly mocked Bengalis or portrayed them in a disparaging light. Chatterjee recalled previous episodes where, according to him, Bengali women were stereotyped and the community as a whole was belittled.
The Bongo Bhashi Mahasabha Foundation’s legal notice is grounded in the argument that the show has crossed cultural and religious boundaries by making light of Ekla Cholo Re, a song widely revered in Bengali households and celebrated for its message of resilience. Tagore’s influence extends beyond Bengal, and his work is esteemed as a cultural treasure, not only for Bengalis but also in the broader Indian context.
The foundation argues that making a mockery of such a significant piece of cultural heritage is a direct offence to Bengali identity and threatens to incite regional tensions. By initiating legal action, they aim to hold the show accountable and raise awareness about the importance of respecting cultural sensitivities in entertainment.
This incident has sparked a wider discussion on regional representation and the need for greater cultural sensitivity in popular media. As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how The Great Indian Kapil Show will respond to the backlash and if further action will be taken to address the grievances of the Bengali community.
In the meantime, Salman Khan’s team has made it clear that they are not associated with the show and have no involvement in the controversial episode. With this clarification, the production house hopes to put any rumours to rest and distance themselves from the matter entirely.
