Diwali celebration at the White House

US First Lady Jill Biden and US President Joe Biden recently hosted a Diwali celebration at the White House, inviting Indian Americans from across the country to join in. Marking their final Diwali celebration as President and First Lady, the Bidens have, over the years, brought a unique touch to this Indian festival.

While sharing the pictures of the Diwali celebrations on X, the White House wrote: “Happy Diwali from the White House! Together, may we show the power in the gathering of light.”
During the White House Diwali celebrations, Biden extended his Diwali greetings, emphasising the festival’s importance and noting its proud presence within the White House.
Acknowledging the South Asian American community‘s impact on American society, Biden highlighted the community as one of the fastest-growing and most engaged globally.
“The South Asian American community has enriched every part of American life. Yours is the fastest-growing and most engaged community in the world…Now, Diwali is celebrated openly and proudly in the White House,” he added.
Garcetti also praised the event and highlighted the significance of Diwali and Indian Americans’ contributions.

In a post shared on X, Garcetti wrote: “What a beautiful celebration of Diwali at the @WhiteHouse! As we celebrate the journey of light, we also honour the invaluable contributions of Indian Americans who deepen the #USIndia bond.”
