Meet Nala the Cat
Nala is a Siamese-Tabby mix cat from California, USA. In 2010, Nala was around five months old when she was adopted from an animal shelter by Varisiri Methachittiphan (fondly called Pookie). In 2012, Varisiri set up a profile for Nala on Instagram to share her pictures and videos with friends and family, which soon caught people’s attention. Over the years, Nala’s fans on Instagram grew to 4.5 million followers– making her achieve the title of the most followed cat on Instagram given by the Guinness World Records in May 2020.
Her bio on the Guinness World Records website reads, “The most followers on Instagram for a cat is 4,361,519, and was achieved by the account “nala_cat”, as verified on 13 May 2020. Adopted by her owner, Varisiri Methachittiphan (USA), from a shelter, the Siamese/tabby mix has captivated the web with her wide, blue eyes, cute headgear and penchant for curling up in cardboard boxes.”

Nala’s huge popularity also landed her in the Forbes List of Top Influencers in the Pets category in the year 2017.
Her playful personality and cute appearance has been widely loved by cat lovers across the world. So much so that she also has her own merchandise, an ebook titled ‘Living Your Best Life According to Nala Cat‘ published by Penguin Random House in 2020, her own website, and a premium cat food brand named ‘Love Nala’. As per reports, Love Nala has raised roughly $12 million from investors which includes Hasbro, Real Ventures, and Seed Camp.
Most of Nala’s earnings are through her strong social media presence, paid advertisements, merchandise and partnerships with brands.
