GURUGRAM: Councillors have demanded that MCG recover funds from builders to complete deficient infrastructure in private colonies that came under the civic body’s jurisdiction from 2022 in a phased manner.
While the corporation took over eight private colonies in 2022 as directed by the department of town and country planning (DTCP), it is yet to collect funds from developers to build deficient infrastructure.
In May 2022, DTCP ordered the takeover of nine private colonies. Following the directions, MCG took over seven colonies, including Sushant Lok-2, Sushant Lok-3, Ardee City, Malibu Town, Vipul World, Uppal Southend and Rosewood City in June 2022. Greenwood City was subsequently taken over in Aug 2022. One other colony was recently taken over by MCG.
With the takeover of these colonies, MCG is responsible for services including roads, water supply, sewerage system, storm water drains and streetlights etc. in these colonies. Takeover also implies that the residents won’t have to pay maintenance fees other than the door-to-door waste collection charges, which are directly paid to the waste collector.
In the house meeting on Tuesday, councillor Kuldeep Yadav sought the status of the funds to be recovered from the builders to complete the deficient infrastructure in the private colonies taken over by MCG. On this, MCG officials said that the recovery has not been made yet. “Recovery should be made from these builders. If they fail to pay up, attach their assets to make the recovery,” Yadav said.
The initial assessment done by MCG in 2022 showed that the estimated cost to complete deficient infrastructure in Mayfield Garden was the highest at Rs 16.2 crore, followed by Malibu Town at Rs 14.7 crore and Greenwood City at Rs 14.3 crore. While the estimated cost to develop the required infrastructure for Ardee City was Rs 10.9 crore, the cost for Sushant Lok-3 was Rs 10.4 crore and Rs 8.5 crore for Sushant Lok-2. The expenditure to address deficient infrastructure in Vipul World was estimated to be Rs 8.9 crore, Rs 4.5 crore for Rosewood City and Rs 3.6 crore for Uppal Southend. This amount had to be recovered from the builders. The MCG has recently initiated developing works such as recarpeting of roads, desilting of storm water drains and cleaning of sewerage lines.
