GURUGRAM: Unauthorised constructions were sealed and demolished in an enforcement drive carried out across the city by department of town and country planning (DTCP) on Thursday. The drives covered areas of Idea Cosmic Plaza in Palam Vihar, and Alipur and Raiseena villages.

Two unauthorized ramps and a gym were demolished at Idea Cosmic Plaza and two offices sealed. Officials, including DTP (enforcement) Amit Madholia and junior engineer Naveen, oversaw the drive.

At Alipur and Raiseena villages, drives were carried out across 69 acres of illegally developed land. Officials razed 57 boundary walls and four under-construction structures in Raiseena, and demolished 15 damp proof courses, four boundary walls, and dismantled a road network in Alipur.

Following the demolition drive, authorities hinted at strict action against developers and brokers involved in unauthorized constructions. Officials confirmed that investigations are underway to identify those responsible for selling illegal properties and giving people false assurances. Legal notices have already been issued to several developers, and further FIRs may be registered, officials said.

Meanwhile, property owners and tenants protested the actions of demolition teams. Many claimed they were unaware that the buildings they lived in were illegal.

Ramesh Singh, a resident, expressed anger over the administration’s action. “We invested our life savings in these properties, trusting developers and brokers. If these constructions were illegal, why did authorities allow them to come up in the first place?” he said.

Another resident, Pooja Verma, raised concerns about the lack of transparency. “People are losing their homes and businesses because of poor regulation. The govt should initiate a crackdown on developers and brokers who mislead buyers instead of punishing innocent residents,” she said. Some buyers also said they were planning to approach the courts, arguing that they were misled by builders.

To prevent a repeat of such cases, authorities issued a strong advisory, urging buyers to verify land approvals with DTP office before making purchases.

“We appeal to the public not to invest their hard-earned money in unauthorized colonies and commercial buildings. Such properties are subject to legal action, and buyers will suffer losses,” said Madholia.

Meanwhile, a long-time resident of Palam Vihar, Ashok Mehra, supported the action. “Unauthorized constructions not only violate regulations but also strain infrastructure and create safety hazards. This drive was necessary to curb illegal developments that put genuine homeowners at risk. Authorities should continue such actions to ensure planned urban growth,” he said.
