MUMBAI: BMC has extended its citizen facilitation centres’ (CFCs) operating hours until 10pm Monday and the midnight of Tuesday (Dec 31), opening at 8am. This extension is intended to help residents clear their property tax dues before the year’s end.

The civic authority has collected Rs 3,582 crore, reaching 58% of its Rs 6,200 crore target for the current financial year. The CFC offices typically close at 6 pm.

Civic officials have confirmed that CFC offices at the BMC headquarters and all administrative division (ward) levels will remain accessible for citizens wanting to settle their dues before the year ends. An officer said many pay their pending dues at the last minute. Property tax remains a significant revenue source for BMC.

BMC has warned strict penal action will be taken against those who have pending property tax dues this month if they fail to clear their payments. The organisation is implementing various strategies to raise awareness about timely property tax payments.

Many property owners pay their taxes after the deadline, resulting in penalties from the BMC.
