RANCHI: The Ranchi Municipal Commission (RMC) has initiated a special drive to boost property tax revenue and ensure adherence to trade licences by commercial entities operating out of the city. RMC commissioner Sandeep Singh said the focus is on properties with substantial outstanding tax payments and regulatory violations. The revenue generated from the campaign would support urban development, he said.
Over the last two days, deputy municipal commissioner Chandradeep Kumar conducted site visits at several major establishments, including Cambrian School Kanke, Nucleus Mall 2, Kotak Mahindra Bank in Morabadi, Hotel Radiant, Hotel Konark and A-One Guest House located on Station Road. After visiting the sites, Kumar said, “Defaulters must promptly settle their dues to avoid legal action under the Jharkhand Municipal Act, 2011, otherwise their businesses will be sealed.”
After assessing the pending taxes, the corporation issued new assessment notices to Cambrian School for its entire property while Nucleus Mall 2 received instructions to clear Rs 61 lakh taxes with interest and penalties for two years.
Kotak Mahindra Bank received a fortnight’s deadline to update its trade licence. The civic body also instructed Hotel Radiant, Hotel Konark and A-One Guest House to settle their outstanding payments immediately.
“Hotels like Radiant, Konark and A-One Guest House have failed to perform self-assessment since 2016, which is mandatory under the Jharkhand Municipal Act. For instance, Hotel Radiant alone owes around Rs 50 lakh annually from 2016 onwards. Such negligence and pending taxes violate regulations and obstruct vital civic projects,” Kumar said, highlighting that establishments operating without proper compliance received warnings about severe legal repercussions, including the closure of their premises.
Appealing to the residents and business establishment owners to regularise their property taxes and trade licences without delay, Kumar said, “Prior notices were issued but repeated negligence has compelled us to act.”
