Ranchi Municipal Corporation Targets 1,200 Property Owners for Pending Holding Tax Payments, – Homevior

RANCHI: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has issued notices to 1,200 property holders, including 100 major defaulters, to clear their holding tax dues.

This move aims to achieve the corporation’s holding tax collection target of Rs 83.27 crore in 2024-25 financial year, with Rs 56 crore already collected through November.

Additional administrator Philbius Barla is actively coordinating with revenue branch employees and tax collection agency Shri Publications and Stationers Private Limited to accelerate tax collections.

“We have determined holding tax for 2.25 lakh buildings within the municipal corporation area, focusing on properties with long-standing unpaid dues or pending commercial tax assessments,” said an RMC official.

During recent inspections, Barla’s team evaluated various properties across Gopal Complex, Shraddhanand Road, Upper Bazaar, and Kutchery Road. The additional administrator stressed that all property owners must pay their holding tax promptly to avoid penalties.

“It’s crucial to identify and assess taxes for commercial establishments that have been operating without paying holding tax. With the financial year’s deadline approaching, we’re taking decisive steps to ensure timely collection,” Barla explained.

To boost awareness, the RMC has installed hoardings at seven strategic locations: Harmu Chowk, Sahajanand Chowk, Ratu Road Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk, Sujata Chowk, Birsa Munda Chowk and Bariatu Chowk.

These displays feature links and barcodes for convenient online payment options.

Barla has directed officials and the collection agency to take immediate action. “While most building owners typically pay in February, we’re targeting full collection by March 2025. Property owners will receive notices and reminders for pending payments,” he added.

To facilitate payments, the civic body has implemented an online portal with direct payment links and barcodes for efficient processing.

This digital initiative aims to streamline the tax collection process and improve compliance among property owners.
